SOON

Saturday October 19th saw the grand opening of SOON Theatre, a magnificent creation by FemboyEllie. Bathed in tasteful golden opulence, this room is the new home for SOON: the eclectic electronic rock band founded by Sahyuri, whom many will know from her inspired DJ work at The Consensual. For this event SOON was accompanied by three DJs : DJ-Incognito,, CheshireKate and Ellettra.

After the intense set, SOON founder Sahyuri was kind enough to grant the gazette an interview:

Sahyuri, can you tell us a little about how SOON came to be?

The origins of SOON lay in another group that I founded: The Hell’s Belles. Our paths separated, but I always wanted to keep the idea of ​​sharing and the desire to get away from the routine of being a solitary DJ.

The initial idea for ​​SOON was to form a duo with FemboyEllie, oriented towards a darker form of electronic music. After leaving The Hell’s Belles, of which she is also a member, I absolutely wanted to continue to share something with her because since the first minute we met I adored her.

Then in order not to be stuck in a musical genre that was a little too restricted, I expanded the group with Venita on drums. I knew her for a long time and owe her a lot in my career as a DJ.

I also needed a guy, for the vocals in particular, and I met Alan at a Gothic party at Thelema. I found him nice and funny and so I asked him to join us.

Soon had its lineup.

What sets SOON apart from other bands?

There are already many bands that are similar or play more or less the same kind of music, and that do it very well. But I like above all to be different, and SOON means “The Sound Out of Nowhere”. I gave SOON a very specific musical colour with a large base of electronic rock, dark synth and industrial electro while remaining festive and accessible for those not initiated to these musical genres. I do not use Spotify or other streaming services, all my music belongs to me. I have more than 40,000 tracks and my collection increases every week.

Can you tell us a little about the role of each member plays in the band?

I am in charge of all the musical arrangements, the composition of the sets and the live mix. I also take care of the organisation of the group during the shows.

Alan helps me a lot on stage where he uses his imagination and talent for improvisation to take care of the announcements and the greetings.

Ellie invests her time in the design, she is a great builder who knows me well and who knows what I want. The SOON theatre is her work.

Venita on her side takes care of finding concert opportunities, especially for The Consensual or White Breeze and of course she makes sure there’s beer!

What are SOON’s plans for the future?

We will soon celebrate our first year of existence with 8 concerts already. We have performed at The Consensual with whom we have a close relationship, but also at White Breeze Berlin.

We finished 3rd in the Battle of Bands 2024, to our great surprise.

I prefer for our performances to remain sporadic. I already have a lot of work as a DJ and SOON represents an even greater investment in time because I do not tolerate any imprecision in my musical choices and my mix.

We will be at the Festival of the Bands on November 23 and probably in December at Consensual, which is our second home.
