The Time Machine

Concept rooms have always been a favourite here at The Gazette. The Time Machine fits perfectly into that tradition. The room is an evolution of a previous build called The 25th Hour which saw its grand opening back in 2022. The keen eyed observer will recognize many time related artifacts on display around the circumference of the room. Most prominent among them the classic Time Machine from H.G. Wells‘ novel. The little details are a delightful mind tease. Do you recognize the notes that are drifting from the little speakers? The snake that bites its own tail? The melting clock table cloths? What about the date set into the Time Machine? Yes, they all have their significance!

Builder and host MellowDy explains in her own words the origins of this thought provoking room:

I was on 3dx since 6 months or so when the 1st guy I was dating suddenly announced he was leaving the game. Looking back at it now, it’s not something that uncommon, but as new player, it was a shock, and a huge pain. Like any creative person, I very often find my “best” ideas in my sorrow, or more likely, digging into my emotions, to convert them into something tangible. Ive put my real life pain into some builds and of course my happiness too.

Right before he left, that guy said he might be back, but no idea when. This last comment has haunted me for a while. It’s a piece of hope, and a breakup without closure at the same time. That’s how I started to ramble a lot about time, that intriguing thing that no one can touch, but it can make all the difference in your journey in the game.

The perception of the time passing in the game is so far removed from the experience of time passing in real life! A week there feels like a month in real life, a month like a year… as if we are in another dimension. I was in the game mostly on my own. Building was my main activity, and very naturally, I projected this obsessive question about time into a new creation: The 25th Hour. It’s actually the first venue I built from scratch and without anything downloaded at all.

The time machine reproduction took me 2 days of work, while the whole venue required 1 month of work. My partner Alan has contributed to the last revamp of the room. The clock under a glass dome on the balcony is a gift from Jan Lou. This the 14th iteration of the room.

We had lots of positive feedbacks from our guests. It’s very encouraging, and the best reward for the time spent on the build and on the playlists. BigBoy, Dimez and Alan brought their best stuff and the general good vibe did the rest

MellowDy and her team are planning to open The Time Machine 2 or 3 times a year on Saturday evenings for special events in collaboration with the Schoppstall people. So keep an eye out for this unique venue!

With special thanks to MellowDy.
