On Saturday June 22nd the first ever Lake Wilderness Race took place in the wake of the much-anticipated Summer wilderness Update at The Lake. Organised by the lovely and industrious owner Keely, seven intrepid runners showed up at the starting line of this unique event.
Before the race went underway Keely and her lovely team AshokaClaymore, AniFluff and AnikaEva made sure everyone got the rules straight while some of the runners were performing some last minute exercises to warm up those muscles.
Tension rose as the count down started. Muscles tensed! Eyes narrowed! When the starting shot finally sounded, GaryS sped off leaving everyone else in his wake. Only MavericksGoose seemed able to keep up.
GaryS beat everyone to the first post while Catatonic overtook MavericksGoose and came in second. Oh my oh my, did Gary already win the race? It certainly looked like he was well on his way to set a record! At each post the runners had to consume a beer in five sips. Some clearly had more practice at this than others!
But then the infernal obstacle course struck and Catatonic took over the lead! Oh what a surprising twist it was in this exciting race! The devious structure defeated all but the most careful and dexterous attempts at crossing it. Keely certainly did not make this an easy challenge!
Viere was second through the obstacle course and saw her chances for a win increase. Tyleete was hot on her heels however and so excited she couldn’t stop dancing! Meiling had fallen behind a bit but took the obstacles with the grace of a ballerina while Catatonic was already speeding towards the next post!
Catatonic was too fast for our photographer to keep up and reached the next post before our camera could catch him. Viere and Tyleete were still neck and neck. Serenity enjoyed the refreshing beer while Meiling decided to change tactics and go for the title of most sexy runner!
The final sprint home was perhaps the most arduous leg of the race. Steep downward slopes challenged the ankles of our runners as they sped towards the finish.
But oh no, what happened to Catatonic? Discombobulated he veered of course straight into the lake and Viere took the lead! Once again an unexpected turn of events in this unforgettable race. Cheers rose from the audience as the sporty blonde went for the win! Champagne for the victor!
Tyleete came in a solid second and a drenched Catatonic finished third! More cheers went out as the remaining runners arrived to join the victory party. And of course the winners got their photo opportunity with the lovely Keely.
The Wilderness Race was a fun event that proves 3DX can rise above the usual. We are looking forward to seeing more of such creative happenings!
The Lake is a unique location unlike any other in the 3DX community: a relaxing place where one can heal or destress from real life or experiences in the virtual world. It succeeds in being both a meeting place and a place where you can find some solitude when needed. We highly recommend you pay it a visit.
