The Discworld
by Eska Kent and Eyder
The Discworld is a fictional place invented by English writer Sir Terry Pratchett. It consists of a planet-sized disc, which sits on the backs of four huge elephants, themselves standing on the back of a world turtle, the Great A’Tuin, as it slowly moves through space. The Disc is the setting for all forty-one Discworld novels in which Pratchett reflects on situations on Earth in a humorous way.
Rendering a complete fantasy world is a huge undertaking. In this build, a collaboration between Eska and the late Eyder, the focus is therefore on selected aspects of the stories that will surely put a smile on the faces of Pratchett fans as they explore the room, starting with the luggage welcoming them in.
Stories of imagination tend to upset those without one.

Hidden away behind a portal is the home of famed wizard Eskarina Smith, a beloved character that Pratchett based on his daughter Rhianna. Deeper into the wilds we find Rob Anybody, quietly fishing on the bank of a babbling brook. Better not disturb the notorious Nac Mac Feegle, last time we did he waved his fishing rod at us shouting: “Ye’ll tak’ the high road an’ I’ll tak’ yer wallet!”
Give a man a fire and he’s warm for a day, but set fire to him and he’s warm for the rest of his life.

The Discworld is a stunning tribute to the worlds created by Pratchett. Every detail of this build oozes with love for the novels and the characters that inhabit them. The man himself would no doubt have loved it, he was himself an avid gamer after all.
It’s not worth doing something unless someone, somewhere, would much rather you weren’t doing it.
Terry Pratchett

Sir Terence David John Pratchett was an English author, humorist, and satirist, best known for the Discworld series of comic fantasy novels published between 1983 and 2015, and for the apocalyptic comedy novel Good Omens, which he co-wrote with Neil Gaiman.
With more than 100ย million books sold worldwide in 43ย languages, Pratchett was the UK’s best-selling author of the 1990s.
On 31 December 2008, it was announced that Pratchett would be knighted (as a Knight Bachelor) in the Queen’s 2009 New Year Honours. In typical fashion, Pratchett created his own sword from deposits of iron he had found in a field near his home as he believed a knight should have a sword. “It annoys me that knights aren’t allowed to carry their swords,” he said. “That would be knife crime.”
Pratchett died at his home from complications of Alzheimer’s disease on the morning of 12 March 2015. He was 66 years old.
He had told Neil Gaiman that anything he had been working on at the time of his death should be destroyed by a steamroller. On 25 August 2017 his former assistant Rob Wilkins fulfilled this wish by arranging for Pratchett’s hard drive to be crushed under a steamroller at the Great Dorset Steam Fair.

As a die-hard Pratchett fan, I’m amazed to see this and find myself smiling at all the little details. Truly amazing work. Nice job Eska and Eyder!
It is one that is very close to my heart, I don’t really open it much because a lot of people don’t understand what its about obviously, but I love it dearly.
As always Curt did an amazing write up and Bettsi nailed the music.
