The Rocky Horror Picture Show Promotion Ends in Pokey
A spirited campaign to fill seats for an upcoming staging of The Rocky Horror Picture Show came to an undignified halt Tuesday night when the production’s own impresario was collared mid-scrawl by 3DX law enforcement officers.
The episode, already circulating briskly across local channels by way of a snapshot from a passing newsstand patron, has done little to dampen enthusiasm, and rather more to inflame it.
The accused, identified as Vibrent Black, was discovered crouched against a brick wall with aerosol can in hand, busily advertising the show’s summer engagement. Witnesses report the producer had got as far as “FOR ALL YOU VIRGINS OUT THERE!” when a unit rounded the corner and brought the artistic enterprise to a sudden close.
Officer Gizmo, first upon the scene, was said to be markedly unmoved by the unorthodox promotional methods. Ms. Black was hauled off and held on charges of vandalism, drawing a 27-hour banishment from the city limits.
The production, organizers insist, will proceed precisely as scheduled. Whether the affair vindicates the old newsroom adage, that there is no such thing as bad publicity, the theatrical community has not yet decided. But it is, at minimum, talking
