Arsinoe’s Live Concerts

Note: since we originally published this article, the live concerts have been replaced by Arsinoe’s Metal Theatre every Wednesday at 21:30 CET.

Arsinoe is one of the most well known names when it comes to music in 3DX. Host of the ever popular Black Rose Concert Hall, she is also an avid metal fan. Most every Sunday she will introduce us to a new band through a live concert. The venue is a beautiful Greek amphitheatre that immediately sets the right atmosphere. Look for her live shows in the evening, around 21:30 CET. We can’t touch upon every band that has featured in these ear splitting performances, so we’ll give an impression of some of the most recent ones.

Amon Amrath is a Swedish melodic death metal band from Tumba, formed in 1992. The band takes its name from Mount Doom, a volcano in J. R. R. Tolkien’s Middle-earth. Their lyrics mostly deal with Viking mythology and history and so they have been sometimes erroneously labeled “Viking metal”, although the band prefers the term melodic death metal.

Arcturus is a Norwegian avant-garde metal band formed in 1991. Their name, which means “Bear Guardian”, references the star Arcturus. The band has experimented throughout their career, extracting influences and incorporating elements from all over the musical spectrum including black metal and classical music, but the band was rooted as a metal outfit. On 16 April 2007, it was announced that the band would be breaking up but the band finally reunited again in 2011.

Mercyful Fate is a Danish heavy metal band from Copenhagen, formed in 1981 by vocalist King Diamond and guitarist Hank Shermann. Influenced by progressive rock and hard rock, and with lyrics dealing with LaVeyan Satanism and the occult (often with ironic or sardonic use of Christian themes), Mercyful Fate was part of the first wave of black metal in the early to mid-1980s, along with Venom and Bathory.
